George Washington's Life - A Summery of all of George Washington's achievements and Life
George Washington was a child of a wealthy plantation owner and lived off the land for 16 years. Then he went and studied military arts until he was commissioned as a lieutenant colonel in 1754. After he fought small battles in the French and Indian War, he farmed his land around Mount Vernon and served in the House of Burgess after marrying Martha Washington. Once the second Continental Congress met, they elected George Washington as Commander in Chief of the army. After some close defeats, he stopped and trained his army to be capable of fighting the British. He then avoided major defeats, while acting when the element of surprise was available (ex. His victory at Trenton and Princeton). After gaining French and Spanish support, he went for Yorktown, Virginia. When the French were keeping the British busy out on the water, Washington struck quickly and defeated the British at Yorktown. After the war, he retired to Mount Vernon. During his retirement, the country was in turmoil thanks to the Articles of Confederation. He decided to come out of retirement to help the country get back onto its feet.
